Experiences | Saint Patrick Centre
Situated in Downpatrick, the Saint Patrick Centre is an indoor interpretive exhibition which tells the fascinating story of Ireland’s Patron Saint. Using a number of A/V installations, Patrick’s own words are used to tell the tale of the arrival of Christianity in Ireland.
As part of a large revamp of the onsite experience, the Saint Patrick Centre and Event Communications enlisted ZolkC to develop a handheld device that could wirelessly sync with the existing A/V installations and deliver the audio soundtrack for each film. The drive behind this solution was a desire to dramatically improve the onsite experience for non-English speaking visitors. By delivering the audio through a handheld device, rather than the exhibition’s PA system, it became possible to present more than one language at the same time.
The final solution deployed by ZolkC in July 2011 has dramatically improved accessibility. It enables parties of mixed-nationalities to listen to the story of Saint Patrick in their own language whilst watching the large-screen content, at the same time as their fellow travellers. Each handheld guide is capable of delivering the content in German, French, English and Spanish.
The solution also allows tour group guides to control the tour on behalf of their group, dictating the pace of the tour and enabling the guide to interact with their tour party.
